Rush hour traffic
driving east to west
siren and blue lights
race west to east
pull over and let them pass
Two blocks further
another siren and blue lights
race west to east
pull over and let them pass
At the bottom of the hill
screaming blue lights perform
a Starsky and Hutch fishtail
race west to east
pull over and let them pass
You think maybe it’s a slow day
and they are practicing
rush hour emergency driving skills
on a potential mayhem call
at a fast food drive through
pull over and let them pass
Two stop lights further
an ambulance races east to west
lights flashing – siren whooping
you hope no one is hurt
pull over and let them pass
On the News at 11
no news is good news
no one died driving home from work
or was beat up over special sauce
on a Popeye’s chicken sandwich
pull over and let them pass
