just a stroll in the park
not a power walk
woodpecker churls in tree
no staccato drumming
you sit on a bench
by the pond
savor a bite of apple
ask the Creator
to quide your words
refine your craft to service
high in trees
crows fly back and forth
back and forth
caw – scritch, scritch, scritch
you read some where
crows remember faces
wonder how many crows
does it take to form a murder of crows
hope they see
you mean no harm
a cardinal flashes red
along the shore
mallards launch from cattail reeds
squirrels pole dance slender pines
you haven’t heard the owl in the woods
for a week
ask yourself again
how many crows form a murder
shrill wren calls from bush
mourning dove does not coo regrets
on the edge of the park
a transformer explodes
birds go silent
too many factors
to divine an omen
