The Myth of Wade Hampton III – Part I

He danced with all the ladies

sword at his side

metals on his chest

a fine bushy faced fox

at wartime cotton patch cotillions

When hounds were heard

howling his name

across the river

he tucked his tail and fled

into the woods and fields

Yipping in shadows until

Rutherford leashed the hounds

the dandy fox reappeared

telling stories of bare handed

killings of bear with only a knife
