You stared out into night skies
and could not find the lion or swan
the eagle or ram, Orion or the bear
You wanted to believe – you wanted to see the magic
you thought maybe you were blind or
maybe you were not spiritual enough
You argued with the Theoi Meteoroi and
questioned who gave ancient Greeks the right
to name the stars and constellations
You wondered if the Chinese and the African
called out into the night to different myths and
what names the stars answered to in the Mohave Desert
Once you tried to connect the stars
like numbered dots on a page
but the dots were not numbered
Everyone laughed at what you traced suspended in sky
you thought maybe your brain was broken or
maybe there was nothing out there at all
