who cared enough to look back

they still preach your story as a cautionary tale

of a disobedient wife

who cared enough to gaze back at what was lost

No one judges your husband

a father who offered up your daughters for gang rape

so he could talk with angels

and left you standing alone waiting for the rain to come

and melt you into salty tears

Did you know he impregnated your daughters

who each bore him a son

did you know scripture blames the victims of rape

say they got him drunk

but not so drunk he couldn’t get it up and talk about it
