This morning, I talked with a cousin fighting
For his life with pancreatic cancer in Indiana.
Always upbeat, he told me that last week
His doctor told him it had spread to his liver and lungs,
But they can cut those out and if chemo treatments number 21-24 don’t work,
He might get accepted in another experimental program.
He’s planning a late June golf outing with frat brothers in Hilton Head and
Maybe, we can hook up, party a bit and swap lies of our youth.
He remembered the time we were trespassing in someone’s farm shed and
A guy started chasing us with a bike chain.
He called me brave and crazy and said
I stayed and fought so he could get away.
But the truth was he could run faster and
I fought because I had no choice but to fight.
