Of lucky quarters and juju pixies

When they closed the fountain

for winter and gathered all the coins

in buckets to haul away,

did it cancel the wishes

and send the pixies to roost

with angels until spring?

I threw a coin

in the fountain once,

wishing I would be good

until Christmas.

Thought I tossed a nickel,

but it was my lucky quarter

and must have negated

the good juju, because

all I got from Santa

was socks and pajamas, again.

I wondered if Santa knew

I was trying to game the system

and If the city workers knew

they had a lucky quarter

or just spent it

on cigarettes or a coke.
