to the prompt: Dancing
=======================
Dance at the sock hop, the prom, the sweetheart formal.
Dance in your bedroom alone in the dark.
Dance to the memory of swirling, sweaty, young bodies.
Dance when everyone has a partner and you’re the odd one out.
Dance in the corn, the beans or fields of fluffy white cotton.
Dance in the moonlit clearing or meadow where no one can see.
Dance ankle-deep in chicken shit, gathering eggs at dawn.
Dance in the barn, the straw and the loft where old farmers don’t go.
Dance when you’re tired or dance when you’re strong.
Dance for your soul and dance for your heart.
Dance at the wedding. Dance when your lover leaves you for someone else.
Dance for the young mother left home all alone.
Dance amidst bodies strewn about the battlefield.
Dance until the drumming stops.
Dance in new shoes, in boots, in mud-splattered galoshes, on tender, bare feet.
Dance just dance; dance until you drop.
