01/22 – today is a day for reading and daydreams and capturing short unnamed snippets of poems that swirl around me

#1

A young boy never sees

a tree he doesn’t want to climb

in his neighbor’s yard,

the county courthouse grounds,

grandma’s house,

the gorilla enclosure at the zoo

An old man looks

for dangling limbs,

leaning trunks,

heaving roots

storms or accidents

waiting to happen.

#2

I do not keep a journal,

I don’t want to lie

and I will

because it’s difficult to be honest

even with myself

and when I’m gone

someone may read it,

believe that it’s all true

and I’m tired of being misunderstood.

#3

If your family

made the cover of a magazine

what time would it show

or is it yet unknown?

#4

Do not hold me libel for my adolescent self,

the young adult, an angry player on the field

Call me out for who I am today

and make me turn around and listen.
