I remember mornings before school
Eating Chex Cereal – rice, corn or wheat
Milk with three teaspoons of sugar (four, if mom’s not looking)
My sisters around the table
Reading The Morning Chex-Press
Good news only on the back of a cereal box
I would construct a three flavored fort around my bowl
Until mom would side with Kathy and Barb
And insist they have one to read, too
I wonder what they’d print now?
What they’d consider good?
What propaganda corporate CEOs would allow?
Either way, reading good news on a cereal box
Beats the morning anger on my news feed
And I can slurp the sweet milk from the bottom of the bowl
