In defense of books

You can’t click and delete history

that lives on small home bookshelves

and in boxes in a thousand attics

waiting to be found.

When the pillage of chaos has ended

and the profiteers have fled,

the living will remember,

pull hard copies back into the light,

take back what was stolen

and set things right.
