City groundskeeping 101

(soon to come: Potholes 101)

This morning, in the park,

everywhere, I move

mowers and weed whackers

seem to follow me.

They cut grass and weeds

and trash (they’re too lazy

to pick up before they mow).

If it don’t rain,

the leaf blower guy will push it all

into tall grass along the tree line.

But it will look good

…from the parking lot

when park management

inspects their progress

from the seat of a city truck.

___

For twenty years,

their manager rode the mower

and now it’s his turn

to slowly meander

through another Monday.

He honks and waves

before he must continue

on his way to full retirement

and his next parking lot

supervisory observation post.
