He read that in the darkness between stars galaxies exist
their brilliance obscured by bodies of light
spinning closer to his perch in space
and somehow this lifted his depression
if only for a moment
A fish rose out of the water flashed in the sun
water dripping from its scales before splashing back
into the sky reflected in the stillness of the day
and somehow this lifted his depression
if only for a moment
In a coffee shop two lovers touched hands
the boy’s arm wrapped around her shoulders as they left
her hip tight against his leg unable to sway in the sunlight
and somehow this lifted his depression
if only for a moment
And so his life went on, ricocheting through
the distance of journeys from darkness to light
convinced that contentment resided in the emptiness between
and somehow this lifted his depression
if only for a moment
