old man sits in a chair staring out to sea

waiting for the riptide to subside

and return her back to him

he says it was their favorite place

to watch lights of ships offshore

on night journeys to foreign ports

because she could not wait for him

he set her ashes adrift in the ebbing tide

and now he wants her back
