In the pine
that leans
over water’s edge
grey blue heron
spreads wings;
a huge leaf that drifts
to ground near shore.
Preens feathers
coils neck
and reads the menu.
A quarter way
around the table
it becomes
shoreline.
Legs move silent
body leans
coiled neck recalibrates.
SNAP!
Head plunges
wings spread
brown frog in mouth.
Un plat de grenouille
in the pine
that leans
over water’s edge.
