Dry leaves rattled in grass at my feet.
Beyond the speed of sound
planes from the airbase roared in the west.
No matter, how long I searched western skies,
I could not see sunlight glint on wings
until I turned to face the east.
Tattered flag on pole unfurled in wind;
colors worn and faded,
time to replace with whole cloth, again.
