outside your porch

A young dude shows up at 9 a.m.

to shoot baskets in the park

turns his music up real loud

and proceeds to work on his game

You don’t care, if his playlist is dope

don’t care, if it is a great mix of old and new

you aren’t interested in listening to any music right now

You think maybe you may go over to the court

sit next to his music, strike up a conversation

and eventually, ask, if he has ear buds

Ask if he realizes folks two blocks over

can hear his music and then you think

if smart phones and Bose were a thing

when you were young, it may have been you

playing music and shooting baskets in the park

You finish your tea and tell yourself

to listen, because this is the world

outside your porch
