Today, the city will come by
for curbside yard waste
I think I’ll bundle up pandemic fears
and set them out there, too
Don’t believe those Bible thumping
divine retribution doomsayers
An asteroid took out the dinosaurs
NOT gay rights, abortion
prayer in school, immigration
the plague or a coronavirus
This isn’t the world’s first pandemic
and won’t be its last
I may not make it through this one
greet you on the sunny side of the street
But I will call my friends and family
wash my hands frequently and practice
safe distancing so more of us survive
Set a chair in my front yard
wait for the trash truck to come by
say hello to the driver and
wave goodbye to my junk thinking
[“Yea , though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil”
(from the Jewish scriptures, Book of Psalms, 23:4 KJV)]
