and diamonds were grains of sand

would it still glitter on your finger?

If cars ran on grass

would international conglomerates

pay royalties to mow your lawn?

If money really did grow on trees

would we find something else

to kill and starve our neighbors for?

If pinky toes were a sex craze

would we make women

wear socks on the beach?

If slugs were social creatures and

became our best friend

would we know their owners by

the slime trails on their sweaters and slacks?
