The Problem with the American male

Once upon a time, the American male

sat up in the middle of the night and became woke

and he reluctantly admitted to himself

that all the gods and goddesses

that all of his boyhood fantasies

are misogynistic nonsense

and he knew man

came from a woman’s womb

and he thought maybe

Eve didn’t come from Adam’s rib

and he thought maybe

his adolescent assumptions about women were wrong

and he thought maybe

it is time he acts like an adult

and he thought maybe just maybe

it is time to change how he votes

and he got up to urinate

returned to his bed

pulled the covers over his head

and fell back asleep
